  >  Europe   >  Cannes Day 1

Bonjour! Yesterday after plane, train, and automobile (literally) we made it to Cannes, France. It was a full day of traveling starting at 5am. We are in Cannes to attend the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity. This morning I wanted to wake up, and get to the festival to see what it is like. It is the same place that has the Cannes film festival. There are two big buildings where all the talks are, and then sponsored beaches right outside lining the beach.

At 10:00am I heard Niomi Cambell speak about “Fashion as a cultural influence”. She is gorgeous! Probably the most beautiful person I’ve ever seen. She brought up points I have never thought about like how there is no vogues in Africa. It was interesting hearing about her story and passions. After her talk I went to an ACT responsible showing. They showed a few commercials about environmental, social, ect problems. One about Syria made me cry. Some of the ads where so powerful. They also had print ads on display, and you voted for your favorite print and film ads. I was super hungry by this time so we went on the hunt for free food. Facebook beach has the best food.

After checking out a few of the beaches we went to a talk on how data is changing Ikea. It was much more interesting than I expected. I learned a lot, and got to see some new ideas they’re working on. I stayed at this same stage for three more talks after this. The next one was “How to be Human”. It was an art director who is the CEO and a copy writer. They were talking about their agency in Sweden, and how they don’t have a creative director because they think everyone should be equal and collaborate. We also got to see the amazing work they’ve done.

After was David Schwimer talking about the skittles ads he did for the superbowl. Friends is my favorite show so I had been looking forward to seeing him. For the last talk of the night I heard Tyler Perry speak. I had no idea about all he has accomplished. After this I was very conferenced out for the day so I headed to CNN beach for food and happy hour. I didn’t stay for too long because I wanted to walk around a bit.

On our way back to the hotel we stopped to get rose gelato with a macaroon. Was it the most expensive ice cream I’ve ever had? Yes. Was it on my Europe bucket list? Yes. I then had a very chill night, and was in bed by 10:30. Only to find out the next day my friends heard Akon performing from his Yacht. Major FOMO! Needless to say you just really can’t sleep while in Europe!
