Buongiorno! The school I am attending is the American University of Rome. Michigan State has about 35 students on this trip. Everyone else at the university is studying through a program so they are from all over. AUR has two weekend trips we can do, and I am doing both. The first one is this weekend and we are staying in Sorrento. Most people on the Michigan State trip are also going on the AUR trips, but not the whole group.
Today I woke up at 5am because we had to meet at school at 6:30. We then took a charter bus to Naples. It took around three hours. We have a group leader who comes from MSU with us, Tom. He said that the tour the group goes on is pretty forgettable so if we want we can go to his favorite pizza place with him. Our group prefers quality food over a boring tour any day of the week so we all went with.
It was a 30/40 minute walk to get there. Naples is very crowded, and you really have to watch your bags. The streets are small, and you can tell there is a lot of people living in close quarters.
The people at the pizza place spoke no English which was actually kind of nice because we were forced to speak the little Italian we know. The pizza was AMAZING. I ate the whole thing. When in Naples you have to get pizza, it’s where it was invented.
After we ate the owner took a picture with us. Tom has been running this trip for years. He finds places he likes and goes back every year. He becomes friends with the owners and they love seeing the students. We then walked back to the bus and went to our hotel in Sorrento. The roads were a little scary getting there, but the views are beautiful. We went to the rooftop for happy hour and then down to the pool. Sorrento truly has my heart it’s beautiful there.
We had a dinner included at the hotel which was pretty sketchy and gross. Our student leader took us to a place called the English Inn which is pretty much this cute outdoor dance club.They played good music, and it was so fun because we were all together and having a good time. We didn’t stay out very late because we were very tired and wanted to get sleep before going to Capri tomorrow!
